State high court repudiates common law regarding release rules
The state Supreme Court on Thursday repudiated an old common law ruling regarding settlements not made in good faith, ruling a hospital must pay a nine-year-old boy who was permanently brain damaged as a baby millions of dollars in damages.

The state Supreme Court on Thursday repudiated an old common law ruling that a settlement not made in good faith with one defendant automatically releases all other defendants from having to pay damages.
As a result, the court ruled a hospital is liable for millions of dollars in damages to a nine-year-old boy for brain damage he incurred as a baby. Leung v. Verdugo Hills Hospital, S192768. ...
