Senate Approves State Bar Reform

State senators voted overwhelming Thursday in support of legislation that would transform the State Bar's governing body from one comprised primarily of elected lawyers to one dominated by appointed members.

SACRAMENTO - State senators voted unanimously Thursday to overhaul the State Bar's governance structure, a plan that would for the first time give the state Supreme Court the power to appoint members, reduce the number of elected lawyers by nine and open the door for board members to serve longer terms.
