Attorney Art Goldberg spent the 1960s going to school in the winter, spring and fall. In the summer, he went to jail. Goldberg, a founder of the Berkeley Free Speech Movement, routinely found himself slapped with misdemeanor convictions for his participation in protests. His appeals would keep him in class during the school year. When summer came, he would take himself off appeal and do his time.
