Senate Judiciary Panel Stands in Way of Telecom Immunity

Legislation that would let phone companies off the hook for helping with the Bush administration’s secret wiretapping program may have passed one committee, but the political battle is far from over. Last week, the Senate Intelligence Committee approved legislation that would grant legal immunity to the phone companies, but the bill has to go through the Judiciary Committee, which could prove more problematic.
