Patent Office Funds Up for Grabs

A key provision in the patent reform bill that would prevent Congress from grabbing funds from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office may be eliminated as the legislation approaches a possible House vote this week.

A key provision in the patent reform bill may be eliminated, as the U.S. House of Representatives is poised to remove language that would guarantee that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office could keep its own funds.


Removal of the provision, which would prevent the diversion of patent application fees to general government coffers, has sparked strong opposition from several industry groups.
