High Court Affirms Standard for Patents

The U.S. Supreme Court affirmed the high standard for proving whether a patent has been incorrectly issued, thus upholding a $290 million verdict against Microsoft Corp. for patent infringment.

WASHINGTON - The U.S. Supreme Court on Thursday unanimously affirmed the high standard for proving a patent has been incorrectly issued, thus upholding a $290 million verdict against Microsoft Corp. for infringing on a Canadian software company's patent.


Microsoft has said the verdict is the largest patent infringement award that's survived appeal.
