Kennedy Vote Becomes Decisive for High Court
A reconstituted U.S. Supreme Court with two Bush appointees left a lasting mark in just its second year, steering the high court’s jurisprudence rightward in three major areas of the law: abortion, racial preferences and campaign finance. In the 2006-07 Supreme Court term that concluded last week, the court's conservative wing, led by Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr., also prevailed in nearly every notable case in which the court was divided along ideological lines.
