Tort lawyers and insurance companies enter unusual alliance on ridesharing legislation

Insurance industry representatives found themselves speaking alongside the Consumer Attorneys of California in advocating that ridesharing companies be covered by commercial insurance when activating their apps.

SACRAMENTO - It was a sight to see: Tuesday morning, the halls of the state Capitol were packed with people wearing and carrying pink, fuzzy mustaches in support of ridesharing company Lyft Inc. But the oddest part of the hearing - which focused on legislation to require that such companies insure their drivers - was the alliance between tort lawyers and insurance companies.
