A disgruntled employee crossed the line into extortion when he threatened to expose his boss for criminal malfeasance unless he settled a lawsuit, a state court of appeal ruled Monday.
The ruling adds to a cross-current of decisions about what qualifies as protected pre-litigation communication and when that communication become extortion. Stenehjem v. Sareen, DJDAR 7583.
