Senate OKs bill to reduce crack sentences

SB 1010, which would bring crack cocaine sentences in line with those for powder cocaine, goes to the Assembly next.

The state Senate on Wednesday approved a bill to bring crack cocaine sentences in line with those for powder cocaine.


The move follows actions four years ago by the Obama administration to close the gap between crack and powder cocaine in federal sentencing law.


The state measure, SB 1010, now moves to the Assembly for approval.
