Taking Care

Dicta Column - By Richard J. Simmons - On Sept. 23, Gov. Gray Davis signed SB1661 authorizing paid family leave for California workers. It is the first paid family leave legislation of its kind in the nation and will be financed directly by an increase in employee payroll taxes. It is part of California's disability insurance program which covers 13 million California workers. Like other employers, law firms must prepare to comply with its dictates.
