'Demons Within' Deepen Enduring Fault Lines That Rend American Life
Nobody wants to be demonized. But there's a whole lot of demonization going on. These words came to me Wednesday morning as I drove from the Daily Journal newsroom in downtown Los Angeles to West Hollywood. I was on my way to a press conference that testified to the fact that, beneath the bunting of unity that drapes this country, dangerous old fault lines in American life endure - and might even deepen - in the aftermath of last week's terrorist attacks on New York City and the Pentagon, which probably claimed more than 5,000 lives.
