Shift in stance toward protesters protected

The Occupy movement, which initially drew broad support from big cities, is now facing eviction from public spaces across the country as public officials' patience with the demonstrations wears thin.

LOS ANGELES - Within two days, three of the country's most visible Occupy movements have encountered pushback from local officials citing municipal law limiting time and place of public assemblies.


As police have broken up the occupations of public parks and plazas, observers debated the legal ramifications for local governments. Experts say municipalities have authority to limit the demonstrations....
