New employment legislation is about more than just credit reports and independent contractors

In early October, Gov. Jerry Brown signed a variety of important employment and labor statutes. Assembly Bill 22 (which regulates the use of pre-employment credit reports) and Senate Bill 459 (which creates civil penalties for "willful misclassification" of employees as independent contractors) received the most publicity. But several other important employment statutes were enacted as well.
