Retired Judge Howard M. Swart died on Sept. 13 of leukemia. Renowned for his warm and ready wit, Swart came by his talent for humor honestly. He was born in Los Angeles on Oct. 30, 1937, to parents who worked in Vaudeville. Swart's father, Howard C. Swart, wrote comedic monologues and eventually made the transition into radio.
