Bar prosecutor tackles discipline backlog

Jayne Kim was an assistant U.S. attorney in Los Angeles when the bar brought her back to lead its discipline office, a 70-attorney unit that pursues lawyers who violate California's professional conduct rules.

Joseph R. Carlucci was on vacation when Jayne Kim took over as the head of the State Bar's discipline prosecution unit.


So when Carlucci, the senior bar attorney recently put in charge of eliminating a backlog of nearly 2,000 discipline cases, returned to work a couple of days later, he figured he should meet with Kim to bring her up to speed on the effort.
