False Claims Act Gets Push By Lawmakers

WASHINGTON - During the Civil War, President Lincoln pushed Congress to pass a law that allowed private citizens to make fraud claims against government contractors for the first time. Now, with the United States in the middle of another war, a bipartisan group of lawmakers is attempting to rewrite the law, known as the False Claims Act, in the face of several court challenges they believe have undermined its potency.
