Panels May Discourage Diversity

New data released this week shows Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's judicial appointment process is screening out slightly more Hispanic and black applicants early in the process. Fredericka McGee, general counsel to Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez, D-Los Angeles, said she believes the problem may stem from secret panels of screeners the governor uses and urged him to release their identities. She said she has heard they are mostly white and male.
