E-Mails Shed Light on Inner Workings at Justice
The newest internal documents released by Justice Department officials won't resolve the debate over the politics behind the U.S. attorney purge, but they cast a fascinating spotlight on the inner workings of an agency usually shrouded in secrecy. The various e-mails, reports and memos paint a portrait of a department operating very much top-down basis, with officials under Attorney General Alberto Gonzales intimately involved in debating every decision regarding local prosecutors.
