Lawyer Tax Break Questioned

Two U.S. senators have asked Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner to address whether the Treasury Department may grant plaintiffs' lawyers a long-sought tax break for expenses in contingency cases.

A U.S. senator and a congressman have asked Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner to address speculation that the Treasury Department could be close to granting plaintiffs' lawyers a long-sought tax break that would allow them to write off expenses in contingency cases, at a cost to the U.S. of as much as $1.5 billion over 10 years in lost revenue.
