Closing the Doors of Justice

Joseph Cotchett of Cotchett, Pitre & McCarthy says the closing of the U.S. Supreme Court's front doors to its citizens is an unfortunate fitting symbol for our times.

Since cameras are not allowed into the courtroom of the U.S. Supreme Court, the public's visual image of the Supreme Court is based upon group portraits of the justices, attorneys and litigants walking up and down the 44 grand steps leading up to the courthouse.

Last month, in an inconspicuous two-paragraph press release, the Supreme Court quietly announced that the great front doors of courthouse would be closed. ...
