ACLU sues secretary of state to allow former felony inmates to vote

California unconstitutionally excluded nearly 60,000 former inmates from voting, plaintiffs' attorneys claimed in a lawsuit filed in Alameda County Superior Court on Tuesday.

SAN FRANCISCO - California unconstitutionally excluded nearly 60,000 former inmates from voting, the ACLU of California and the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights of the San Francisco Bay Area claimed in a lawsuit filed Tuesday in Alameda County Superior Court.


The state Constitution prohibits inmates convicted of a felony and those on parole for a felony conviction from voting.
