Brown's budget serves up prison proposals

Beyond dollar amounts, the plans unveiled last week include a number of policy proposals aimed at reducing overcrowding in state prisons and providing aid to county jails hit hard by realignment.

The proposed state budget released last week by Gov. Jerry Brown includes a number of policy proposals aimed at reducing prison overcrowding - currently the subject of a federal court order - while providing aid to county jails hit hard by state criminal justice reform known as realignment.
