California US attorney's offices buck trend of declining monetary recoveries

Led by a banner year in the Northern District, California's U.S. attorney's offices bucked a broader declining numbers trend - depending on the metrics used to evaluate their recoveries - bringing in nearly $1.3 billion last year.

The Department of Justice saw its monetary recoveries from civil and criminal cases in 2013 drop dramatically from the numbers posted a year earlier. After collecting more than $13 billion in 2012, the prosecutorial agency brought in $8 billion this past year, according to statistics released by the department.
