Prominent Civil Rights Lawyer Dies in Single-Car Accident

Attorney Melanie Lomax, a staunch civil rights advocate and former Los Angeles police commissioner, has died. She was 56.

      Attorney Melanie Lomax, a staunch civil rights advocate and former Los Angeles police commissioner, has died. She was 56.
      Lomax died Sunday night, when her car fell off a steep embankment near her Hollywood Hills home, according to a Los Angeles Police Department spokesman.
