Can You Make Staffers Independent Contractors?

Employment Column - By Phillip R. Maltin - To cut costs, the owner of an attorney service wants to make his couriers independent contractors. He requires them to sign agreements detailing the terms: Each must own a car, carry automobile insurance, obtain workers' compensation insurance, pay for the jacket each must wear with the name of the service on it and agree that a flat delivery fee is the only compensation.
