Deportees Must Be Granted Bond Hearings

Immigrants under deportation orders or those seeking to reopen their cases must be granted a bond hearing after 180 days of detention, the 9th Circuit held for the first time on Monday.

A Senegalese immigrant in Los Angeles who already attained important relief for those awaiting deportation won another benefit Monday from the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.


A circuit panel's decision in the case of Amadou Diouf could end the prolonged detention of many immigrants facing removal from the U.S., a situation that has alarmed civil rights observers.
