Arbitration in Health Care Helps Patients, Taxpayers

The recent report titled "Arbitration in California Managed Health Care Systems" (2001), produced by the California Research Bureau, characterizes the health care arbitration system in California as unfair and biased against consumers. The report goes on to suggest that a recent decision by the California Supreme Court in Armendariz v. Foundation Health Psychcare Services Inc., 24 Cal.4th 83 (2000), should be used as a guide by the Legislature to overhaul that system.
