The Physics of Legal Charity, Counting Interest Rates and Adopted Kids

LOS ANGELES - The creation of money can be almost as mysterious - and controversial - as the creation of the universe. That's one way of looking at the cash generated by the Interest on Lawyer Trust Accounts program that funds legal services for the poor around the nation. Known by the ugly acronym IOLTA, the program pools small interest payments - about $100 million annually - that accrue in attorneys' client trust accounts.
