'Bounty Hunter' Blues

WEISS As 2001 came to an end, a small group of private attorneys filed more than 4,400 60-day notices of intent to sue under the private enforcement provisions of California's Proposition 65. Hundreds of these complaints are against the state's innkeepers. Coming on the heels of a major slowdown in business travel and tourism as a result of the recession and the events of Sept. 11, these lawsuits could cause further havoc in the state's already fragile hospitality industry.
