Holding Sway

Sliding easily from bar to clustered armchairs and back again, they paused from time to time to graze from trays laden with goat cheese, ahi tuna, seared beef. They greeted each other with quiet nods or with shows of hugging jocularity. They talked shop, kids, nannies, politics. They talked about the history of the restaurant, which had once been a glamorous department store.
