Sperm Donors Must Be Able To Rely on Confidentiality

The California Supreme Court recently proved the old adage that "hard cases make bad law." In Johnson v. Superior Court, 80 Cal.App.4th 1050 (2000), review denied, 2000 Daily Journal D.A.R. 5242 (Aug. 23, 2000), the court addressed whether an anonymous sperm donor can be forced to testify in a lawsuit against the sperm bank that purchased his sperm. The court, in upholding a May appellate court opinion, said yes.
