Amendment to immigration bill could add new judges in California

A little-noticed amendment in the massive immigration overhaul bill could have big implications for the Eastern District of California, which could get three new judgeships under the U.S. Senate version of the proposed legislation.

A little-noticed amendment in the massive immigration overhaul bill could have big implications for the Eastern District of California.


The bill that passed through the Senate Thursday includes a provision authorizing eight new permanent district court judgeships in the Southwest U.S. states on the border with Mexico, including three in California's Eastern District.
