Last week, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission filed lawsuits in federal courts against two well-known companies, car manufacturer BMW and retailer Dollar General, claiming that their use of criminal background checks discriminated against African Americans. What should grab HR professionals' attention is that the companies' background check policies did not violate state law.
