PTO May Offer Faster Service

Under a proposal unveiled Thursday by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, companies and inventors would be able to get a much quicker decision on their patent applications but for a higher, yet-to-be-determined price.

Under a proposal unveiled Thursday by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, companies and inventors would be able to get a much quicker decision on their patent applications - but for a higher, yet-to-be-determined price.

Other applicants could stick with the current system, or go on a slow track that would postpone an examiner taking a look at the would-be patent for 30 months.
