Public Defenders, S.F. Clash on Paralegal Need

Everyone's cursing their budget woes these days, but the financial turmoil at San Francisco's public defender's office has turned into a political battle. Public Defender Jeff Adachi said his attorneys have had to pass on seven felony cases since Feb. 1 because Mayor Gavin Newsom and the Board of Supervisors did not approve his requests for two paralegals.
