The Federal Communications Commission is being asked to step into the controversy over the Washington NFL team's use of the name "Redskins," a word many consider a slur to Native Americans. A petition filed with the FCC argues that broadcasting the word has "an adverse impact on impressionable young Indian as well as non-Indian children," and seeks to ban its use over the airwaves. (Ironically, the petition uses the word "Indian" despite similar controversy attached to word.)
