Judge rejects effort to repeal federal oversight of state prisons

In Friday's order, U.S. District Judge Lawrence K. Karlton ruled that the state failed to convince him that it was not violating plaintiffs' Eighth Amendment rights by being deliberately indifferent to inmates' mental health needs.

A federal judge has denied California's motion to terminate a decades-long lawsuit regarding prison conditions on Friday.
