When Juan Luis Alcivar enlisted in the U.S. Army, he did so out of loyalty to his adopted country.
After a sniper shot him in the leg outside of Baghdad and Alcivar was sent back to Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., the Dominican legal immigrant made another decision: to naturalize.
