Birotte Nominated As Next US Attorney for Central District
Los Angeles Police Department Inspector General Andre Birotte Jr. has been nominated by President Obama to be U.S. attorney for the Central District of California. "I am humbled and honored by the nomination," Birotte said Thursday. “André Birotte Jr. is an outstanding candidate with strong support in the local community," said Sen. Dianne Feinstein in a statement. "He is highly qualified and I believe would bring significant experience to the office of the U.S. Attorney in the Central District. I was pleased to recommend him to the President." If confirmed by the U.S. Senate, Birotte would become the Central District's first African American U.S. attorney. Since 2003, as inspector general, his office investigates allegations of police misconduct and reports to the Police Commission. A 1991 graduate of Pepperdine University School of Law, Birotte was a Los Angeles County public defender for three years, then was a federal prosecutor from 1995 to 2001, where he prosecuted narcotics and fraud cases.
