Big verdicts grab the headlines, but the biggest battles often begin after the trial's conclusion. So-called "post-trial rescue" is a niche practice of lawyers who specialize in overturning or dramatically reducing large jury verdicts.

LOS ANGELES - Two days after the Vons supermarket chain got nailed with an $18.4 million verdict in a sexual harassment case in October 2006, the grocer called Paul W.
