Court Cuts Off Custody Appeals

Parents losing custody of their children don't have the right to pursue an appeal after their lawyers aren't able to find any arguable legal issues, the California Supreme Court ruled Monday.

Parents losing custody of their children don't have the right to pursue an appeal after their lawyers aren't able to find any arguable legal issues, the California Supreme Court ruled Monday.

Allowing parents to make a personal appeal would unnecessarily delay the adoption process, Justice Carlos R. Moreno wrote for the 6-1 court. In re Phoenix H., 2009 DJDAR 17665.
