New proposal unveiled for former Escondido C.C. property

Developer Michael Schlesinger and his company, Stuck in the Rough, had originally hoped to build 430 homes on the property, but he ran into stiff opposition over the density. Area residents also were still angry that he had closed the golf course.

Santa Monica-based developer New Urban West has unveiled a new proposal for the former Escondido Country Club but, like a previous plan for the 110-acre parcel, it could face strong opposition.

Darren Pudgil, a New Urban West spokesman, said the developer will submit its application within the next two months, before starting a 12-month environmental review process. The plan features 392 single-family homes.
