SF Bar opinion concludes representing medical marijuana clients is ethical

Despite federal law, California public policy and great client need demands legal help for clients in the industry. But clients and lawyers must beware the risks.

A California lawyer cannot ethically advise a client on the best way to rob a bank
or smuggle cocaine or violate most other federal laws.


Rule 3-210 of the state's Rules of Professional Conduct makes that clear. It says
