Judge: black inmate who contracted valley fever can sue prison

A Bane Act suit brought by a former prisoner has been allowed to move forward by a judge in Torrance.

A judge in Torrance on Wednesday ruled a black prisoner can sue under a hate crimes
law because he was transferred to a Kern County lockup where he contracted the lethal
fungal infection known as valley fever.
