Joint-Return Income-Tax Filing System Should Be Abolished

The Ozzie and Harriet days are over. Filing a joint tax return can destroy your life. While President George W. Bush's tax proposal includes a reduction in the marriage penalty that married couples suffer when they have earnings that are split fairly evenly, he misses the biggest marriage penalty of them all - joint income-tax return liability. This penalty can cost a person everything she or he owns.
