Capital Trial Ends With Prison Term

U.S. District Judge William Alsup of San Francisco sentenced Emile Fort, who was one of the first defendants to face a death penalty trial in the Northern District of California in more than 60 years, to 41 years in prison as part of a plea deal.

SAN FRANCISCO - A federal judge Wednesday questioned a decision to charge a gang member who had faced the death penalty with murder in federal court instead of state court as he accepted a plea deal for the defendant.
