Judge pushes education lawsuit toward trial

A Los Angeles County Superior Court judge denied the state's motion for summary judgment in a lawsuit taking on employment statutes advocates say prevent schools from firing poor teachers. A trial is set for Jan. 27.

LOS ANGELES - A potentially landmark lawsuit against the state of California, Gov. Jerry Brown and education officials will proceed to trial, a judge ruled Friday.


After listening to arguments from both sides, Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Rolf M. Treu denied a motion for summary judgment filed by the defendants. Treu had issued a ruling Thursday tentatively letting the case go forward...
