Oracle, Google prep for software copyright showdown

Experts say the case provides an opportunity for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit to address whether and to what extent copyright law can protect computer software.

In a landmark legal battle between Silicon Valley technology heavyweights Oracle Corp. and Google Inc., the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit will hear arguments this week on whether specific elements of Oracle's Java computer programming code are eligible for copyright protection.
