New state high court justices split, allowing sex offender law to survive

A split among the three Gov. Jerry Brown appointees to the state Supreme Court has allowed a sex offender law - which critics say is homophobic - to stand.

A split among the three Gov. Jerry Brown appointees to the state Supreme Court has
allowed a sex offender law - which critics call homophobic - to stand.


The 4-3 vote Wednesday to deny rehearing of a January decision in favor of the law
had Justice Leondra R. Kruger lined up in the majority with three non-Brown appointees.
